Rated 5.0 ★ on GoogleA Place to Gather
ROVE Sauna is a handcrafted wood-fired community sauna in Scarborough, Maine, created as a place to slow down, warm up, and connect. Located just outside Portland near Higgins and Scarborough beaches, each session combines heat, cold water, rest, and community.
We're Back — September 3rd
The ordinance passed unanimously on August 19th. Scarborough now permits mobile saunas, and that happened because people showed up, wrote in, and spoke up for it. Thank you so much.
Booking is open now for sessions starting Thursday, September 3rd at Black Point Surf Shop.
Our site license goes before a final public hearing on September 2nd. We're expecting it to go smoothly — if anything shifts, every reservation is refunded in full.
How It Works
Step 1: Reserve Your Session
Our hour-long sauna sessions host up to 8 guests and cost $30 per person.
If you have a larger party or want something more intimate, you can reserve the entire sauna by purchasing all available spots for that session.
Step 2: Arrive & Settle In
Before You Arrive
Arrive wearing swimwear (required)
Bring about 1L of water
At the Sauna
Leave shoes outside and store belongings in cubbies
Sit on a towel inside the sauna
Extras
Organic cotton towels available if needed
Spring water and LMNT electrolytes available for purchase
Bathroom available in the surf shop during opening hours
Step 3: Sweat, Breathe, Repeat
Each session includes three ~15-minute rounds of wood-fired heat with cooling breaks between them. Essential oils are added to the water poured over the rocks at the beginning of each round, filling the sauna with aromatic steam as your host fans the room.
Essential Oils by Round
Uplift & Invigorate with Sweet Orange & Peppermint
Clear & Stimulate with Eucalyptus & Rosemary
Calm & Ground with Lavender & Frankincense
Between Rounds
Step outside for ~5 minutes in nature
Cool down with a crisp cold-water bucket
Relax in an Adirondack chair with your feet on the earth, surrounded by trees and open sky
Share the experience with others and leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, and deeply grounded.
Good for Body and Soul
You'll feel it the moment you step out: looser, calmer, clearer. Here's what the heat, the cold, and the quiet are doing underneath.
Heat that Resets You
Deep, even heat loosens tight muscles and eases your body out of high gear. Most guests leave unknotted and unhurried, and sleep better that night. It's the reset a full week rarely gives you.
A Workout for Your Heart
Sitting in the heat lifts your heart rate much like gentle exercise; the cold-water bucket sends it the other way. Long-term studies from Finland, where sauna is a way of life, associate regular use with lower blood pressure and better cardiovascular health.
Rooted in Nature and Each Other
Between rounds you cool down with your feet on the earth, under open sky, beside whoever's on the bench with you. Time outdoors and real connection do their own quiet work, the part of the ritual no study can bottle, and the reason people come back.
Heat, cold, rest, connection. Simple — and good for you.
